How to Store Honey, Desi Ghee, Dry Fruits and Dates
By Khyber Organic · Updated 30 October 2026
Simple storage rules that keep honey, desi ghee, nuts, dates and spices fresh: where to keep them, what to avoid and how to fix crystallised honey.
Honey
Keep honey in a closed jar at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. The fridge is not needed and tends to speed up crystallisation.
If it crystallises, stand the closed jar in lukewarm water until it runs again. Do not boil it.
Desi ghee
Store ghee in a clean, dry, airtight container in a cool place. Always use a dry spoon, because water getting into the jar is what spoils ghee fastest.
Almonds, walnuts and other dry fruits
Use an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Nuts contain natural oils that go stale with heat and moisture, so buy amounts you will finish in a few months. In hot, humid weather, the fridge keeps them fresh for longer.
Dates
Keep dates in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. For longer storage in hot weather, the fridge keeps them soft.
Spices
Store spices in airtight containers away from heat, light and moisture. Whole spices keep their aroma much longer than ground ones.
Common questions
Should I keep honey in the fridge?
No. Honey keeps well in a closed jar at room temperature, and cold storage makes it crystallise faster.
How do I make crystallised honey liquid again?
Stand the closed jar in lukewarm water until the crystals dissolve. Do not use boiling water.
